Josh Martinez – President-Elect

Since his time as a resident assistant at Mount St. Mary’s University, Josh has been involved with MCPA by attending the conferences and this involvement lasted even when he attended his graduate program in Virginia. Now, as a Community Director at UMBC, he hopes to continue to build on the foundation of this organization and help it to continue to expand. MCPA has been a major part of Josh’s career development and he hopes to give back to the organization as President-Elect.

Sarah Herberger – Communications Coordinator

Sarah Herberger (she/her) has been with Johns Hopkins University since January 2017, most recently working in the Student Affairs office at the Peabody Conservatory. She received her B.A. in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Master of Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University. She is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia. As part of her current role, Sarah manages communication strategies for the Peabody Conservatory Office of Student Affairs, including managing social media, email communications, and updates to the Student Affairs website. Outside of student engagement, her interests include Fraternity & Sorority Life and civic engagement.

Jake Garner – Membership Coordinator

Jake Garner is a three-year member of ACPA and joined MCPA upon moving to Maryland in 2019. While new to the state chapter, Jake has valued the opportunities for connection and collaboration MCPA has offered and hopes to sustain these opportunities, even within the digital realm, to promote and maintain membership within the organization. He presently serves on the technology and logistics planning subcommittee for the Mid-Atlantic Virtual Summit. Jake works as a Community Director within Residential Life at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Virginia Tech. Outside of work, Jake enjoys running, cooking, listening to NPR podcasts, and overwatering his six plant children.

Kim Hinds-Brush – Annual Events Coordinator

Kim Hinds-Brush has been working in Student Affairs for 16 years after graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Masters in Higher Education Administration. Before completing this degree, she earned a BA in History and a BS in Accounting from UNLV. She has worked at small private colleges and public universities from coast to coast. Most of her work has been in Residence Life and Student Activities, so she has the experience needed to plan events which is the reason for running for Annual Events Coordinator.

Tyler Fultz – Regional Coordinator for Northern Maryland

Tyler Fultz (they/them) is a Community Director for Apartments in Residential Life at UMBC, a role that they have been in since March 2019. They grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland (go Blair Blazers!) before earning a B.A. in Geography and Drama from Vassar College and an M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University. In their work at UMBC, Tyler collaborates closely with student staff to build community within the residence halls and apartments through designing curricula from a Restorative Practices framework. In 2019, Tyler attended their first MCPA Conference where they presented on Restorative Practices in residential student conduct, and since then, Tyler has presented at multiple national and regional conferences on Restorative Practices in higher education. Beyond their Community Director position, Tyler currently serves as a coach for UMBC’s STRiVE leadership program and is on the planning committee for NASPA’s 2021 Undergraduate Student Conference. Tyler’s Clifton Strengths lie in the relationship building and influencing domains (Empathy | Woo | Positivity | Communication | Includer), and as Regional Coordinator for Northern Maryland, Tyler plans to use these strengths to build relationships between MCPA and colleges/universities throughout Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, and Howard County.

CJ Hartung – Student Representative

CJ Hartung (he/him) joined the Student Affairs team as a Student Engagement Project Assistant in August 2020. CJ works closely with Chris Ambrose, the Assistant Director of Student Engagement. Prior to his current position, CJ reinstated and reformed the student body government, PGA, and served as President for 2 years during his undergraduate career at Peabody. He now returns as a second-year Master of Music student in Voice. CJ is an avid performer and champion of growth and development within the performing arts industry. He has an immense interest in race, identity and leadership within the arts, and defining what truly defines, and implements generational and cultural accessibility.


Each of the above positions ran uncontested and the following positions received no candidates:

  • External Relations Coordinator
  • Regional Coordinator for Eastern Maryland
  • Regional Coordinator for Central Maryland
  • Regional Coordinator for Western Maryland
